Young Women's Empowerment Weekend

Young women from Somali background in Victoria are invited to be part of a new and exciting empowerment program!

It is designed to deepen the engagement and social participation of young Somali women in both their own communities and the wider mainstream society. The program will be delivered by the Australian Multicultural Foundation, in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation to provide leadership skills to build capacity of participants to address issues unique to and arising in the Somali Community.

What will the program involve?

A free two day training program that will involve:

  • Workshops with prominent community leaders, scholars and change makers.
  • Preparing young women with the confidence, resilience and leadership skills to achieve their goals and influence change in their communities.
  • Form relationships and network with like minded young leaders.
  • Deepen their engagement with the broader community.

The two day weekend program will commence in March (dates TBC). It is open to 12 aspiring young Somali women, aged from 20 to 28, with the potential to exercise a positive influence among their peers and communities.

  1. The work you do or have done in the community
  2. The key issues in your community you would like to address
  3. Why you would like to be a part of this program
